As stated at http://webaccess.msu.edu, "Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can read, navigate, and contribute on the Web." Obstacles to these freedoms might include: improperly functioning forms, content that is reliant upon color for context, flickering images, multimedia without captions or transcripts and more. The MSU policy on Web accessibility "applies to all University Web pages used to conduct core University business or academic activities," and aims to help educate MSU students, staff and faculty members, eliminating some of these barriers.
The policy, which took effect on July 1, 2008, is available for review at [http://webaccess.msu.edu http://webaccess.msu.edu]. This site explains the technical guidelines that must be followed to bring a course or public Web page into compliance. Faculty members teaching an online or blended course must ensure that they have a fully compliant syllabus. Students should be advised to contact the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities http://rcpd.msu.edu for individual needs assessments and accommodations.
