External readings, course packs, eTexbooks

modified Apr 17th, 2007

There are a variety of options for providing access to resources outside the course site. Using a mixture of some online reading and some book or course pack reading lets students leave their keyboards and provides different expert perspectives.

Online readings can supplement or replace textbooks. You might choose external readings, electronic course packs, electronic textbooks or CD-ROMS. Make sure students know how to access such resources and be sure they are easy to use.

Examples

  • textbooks and/or CDs, if used, include titles, authors, publishers, ISBN numbers, copyright dates, and information as to where copies can be obtained
  • a link from the course goes to a specific resource
  • required software plug-ins are listed, along with instructions for obtaining and installing the plug-ins
