Writing clear questions

modified Dec 14th, 2006

Online test questions include the following:

  • the test question
  • possible answer choices
  • correct answer + reinforcement (feedback)
  • wrong answer + remedial feedback

Question formation affects the student's response. The more explicit you are in creating your questions, the easier it will be for students to decipher. Questions constructed using complex wording may become a test of reading comprehension rather than a test of student knowledge.
