Using student projects in subsequent semesters

modified Dec 14th, 2006

Michigan State University policy is that students own the original work they produce for class assignments. Professors may find it useful to showcase exemplary student projects in future semesters, and to inspire and inform their class about expectations and possibilities. Permission must be obtained from the students to use their work in future semesters.

Below is a sample letter from an instructor, sent to students after final grades have been submitted.

MSU Example:
"I would like to ask your permission to show off some of the outstanding projects and tutorials you have created this semester. If you are willing to let me use your work (with credit to you!) in future classes, please send me an email officially granting me permission to do so. Grades have already been turned in, and your decision will have no impact on your grade. It will be greatly appreciated if you are willing to share your work. Thank you for considering this request."
